Ok that's a weird problem IMHO. The first thing i would check, would be the blue wires to the ballast resistor if they have current when the ign switch is off (it shouldn't have any), but don't do this test after you've started and shut off the switch. Do it before, if it doesn't have current then turn on the switch, shut it off and then check again. If it has current before you turn the switch then somehow the blue wire has a short or is connected to a source providing it current. If it does this after then something must be wrong with the switch (but you've replaced it already). Good luck tell us what happened.

will do thanks for the advice. I have two ballast resistors one for the coil I have and a ballast resistor on the fire wall that has four prongs on it.

Check the prong in the firewall ballast resistor that has the blue and brown wires, check that and the exact opposite blue one. The single blue one feeds the opposite blue/brown one.

If the problem is there, it might then occur another problem, somehow more erratic but you should check that also. The brown wire (the one that goes to the firewall ballast resistor) goes to a prong that fits the bulkhead connector to the other side (of the wire). The connector has the brown wire just next to the big black wire that goes to the alternator. Now the years and possibly heavy current loads may have that black wire developing huge temps and if it touches the wires next to it, melts them and kind of merges them together so it gets the current from the battery (the black wire has current all the times unless the battery is disconnected). Seems a little complicated, but it's not. If the wires aren't merged, then maybe they are merged (and most possibly) to the inside of the bulkhead connector behind your pedal assembly next to the steering column.

Stock ignition? Any rewiring going on?
If stock, somehow the blue wire is staying hot after you shut off with the key. Does your battery drain if you leave it for a while, or check the ballast resistor. Does it stay hot after you shut off?

Thinking about the melt down we've witnessed in some harnesses in the bulkhead connector area... Possible the red & blue wire has shorted together.

I'd be checking if someone has added a jumper wire straight from the battery or starter relay as well before digging to deep in the factory harness.
