71 cuda window guide hardware loose
« on: March 28, 2017 - 12:32:32 PM »
I have all new glass from AMD that matches the original glass I removed perfectly,
I also have two sets (from two different vendors) for the door glass and 2 for the 1/4 glass (all the "guides and such")

the problem I am having is all the insert parts that go through the glass are too small and do not tighten up when screw is installed. what have others done to correct this?

my main concern is the front short insert for the horizontal rail attachment as the insert will just spin and when its in the door one cant not get in front to hold with a pylers. furthermore when screw is tight insert is not in glass.

I have two old ones from the 1/4 glass (that where in the old glass) and they fit tight in the new glass, so I know its not  a glass issue rather a plastic issue.
I did take one of the new inserts, and heated then flare the end that is to pinch in the hole in the glass and it holds but the screw of course has nothing to thread on.
I do not have enough original pieces to equip all the glass.
what have everyone done to correct this?
glue, wrap the spacer or screw it self?

any help would be greatly appreciated or a place to get a full new correct set would be best.

well, I did what I originally thought I'd have to do, to correct this, even though I really didn't want to.

after ordering another "correct" set, that ended up being just as wrong as the others I cut 2 inch pieces 1/8 inch wide pieces of blk electrical tape, wrapped each insert,(some more some less) compressed each tab, inserted and with the slight added thickness, it tightened the insert in the glass when screw was tightened. works and can barley notice it.

Good Job   Not having dealt with this particular issue I had no suggestion but wondered if thin nylon washers might be a solution.
Your electrical tape fix makes me think of another issue I solved with heat shrink tubing, a fitting was slightly undersized to get a good seal with rigid plastic tubing. Think this could have worked here as well.
