cuda drip rail moldings
« on: April 18, 2016 - 09:22:23 AM »
hello all,

really cranking on my cuda, attaching all trim this weekend...
question is are there new drip rail moldings available,
or does some one know of someone that has "like new" set for a 70 cuda?

if not what are you doing to resurrect yours?

most of my body outer trim parts I've replaced with new reproductions...
so the original drip rails I have are very, very rough, full of bends, dips, tears and generally scared up.
I have held them up to the car and they stick out badly compared to the rest.

anyone make reproductions of these?

I even thought of blasting, filling and painting these but it just looks so much better when its chrome.
thanks

no one reproduces they currently. USED only. generally If you have a good metal finisher they can be buffed out.

tig most likely but depends on location of problem and thickness issues.

With regards to the drip rails, were these cars painted before or after the rails were installed??

Thanks!

I would say after the cars were painted.

Ebay shows both new and used drip rail moldings.  I didn't think they were available new, but they seem to be.  You also need the sheet metal weatherstrip gutter that goes under the drip rail.

Is there is a (caulking) sealer applied between the rails and the roof after the rails are installed that is not painted over, or is sealant simply applied to the backs of the rails before that are bolted in?

There is a foam sealant tape on the back of the drip rail that touches the roof when installed.
