TTI headers with Schumacher Mounts, A Couple Reference Pics
« on: June 14, 2017 - 08:23:11 AM »
I recently swapped manifolds for TTI's (TTIHEMI-218C1) while using Schumacher's conversion mounts (BCEH) and took a couple pics of the modifications necessary. The swap was in a '70 B-body, but the headers and mounts fit E-bodies as well and the modifications shown would be the same.

In pic #1, in order to clear the forward driver's side primary, the stock K-member mount has to be trimmed (Car was originally a 383). Schumacher's instructions tell you to use their mount to trace a line for the cut.

pic #2 shows where the cut will be.

pic #3 shows the trimmed area de-burred and fogged black.

Here's a look at the dipstick modification.

The tube needs to hug the block side for a bit to clear a primary tube before kicking out and curving back up again around the flange.

Take note of how close it is to the Schumacher mount, you MUST install the dipstick tube AFTER threading the bolt through the mount. (ask me how I know)

Here is an extra tidbit about using MP mega-blocks with factory exhaust manifolds. The yellow arrow on the far left shows where the oil drain-back kick out must be ground for clearance. The middle arrow is where the water jacket bulge had to be ground at the top for clearance, and the far right arrow happens to be where a Cometic gasket tab needed to be bent down.

Whats with the yellow box on the right? Mega-blocks have bulged out water jackets to accommodate the big 4.5" bore. Because of that, common stock starters won't fit and you MUST use a mini-starter regardless of headers or manifolds. (Again, ask me how I know)

Hopefully these notes and pics saves somebody some headaches down the road, it always pays to test fit things before putting them in the car.

Some other pertinent information:

The vehicle in question is a non-power steer, non-power brake car, with column shifted auto. I can't comment on the fitment of the mounts and headers with power items, but they otherwise fit like a glove with plenty of clearance and no bashing required! I think that's impressive with 2.125" primary tubes and non-stock motor mounts.

A pic of where the engine is positioned with the Schumacher Mounts.
