cuda dash indicator tubes and lens fitment
« on: April 26, 2017 - 09:39:52 AM »
okay, so I do not have original light tubes nor have I seen them in person.
I purchased two different sets of light tubes and lens.

my question is do the lenses insert into corresponding tabs in the light tubes?
I cant seem to get any to line up but one...

I'm not sure, but I think the 3 light tubes are not supposed to be the same. They have different notches so they are oriented on the correct way in the dash. I can't tell from the pics but they all look the same to me. I'm not positive about this, maybe someone that knows for sure will join in.

this is the part that is confusing, while I thought each one would be different and correspond with each colored lens, they do not and all tubes have the same "notches"

after some looking found a past post from Alan about this he says:

"All three tubes are the same.
All years of tubes 70-74 are the same.
No lenses ever attach to the tubes."

also found more info

"All three tubes are notched differently, but the notched tubes were never used for attaching the lenses. The lenses are directly attached to the bezel, which is notched as well....all three (left, right, and brake are notched with a different pattern). For some reason I was under the impression that the lenses were attached to the light tubes. Even though the tubes are notched, the lenses were never attached to the tubes. So,a set of aftermarket tubes that are all notched the same (or not at all) is not an issue"

"lenses/tubes go L, R, Brake"

so I guess the lenses attach in side the gauge housing and the lens do not fit into or attach to the light tubes.

alright so I looked very closely at my original gauge bezel housing but did not see any notches to correspond with the indicator lens notches.
However each hole has a textured glue like material that appears to have held the lens into the gauge bezel.
due to multiple breakage and damage to this original housing when I got it, I ordered a new one from classic industries, not only did other holes not line up and require a bunch of grinding, drill, heating and flexing to make it work it does not have anything to help attach these indicator lenses, I resorted to using a craft plastic glue as I was afraid my "go to" glue (CA) would fog and leave a white residue or possibly eat the lens.

it was a complete bit** to get these centered and level with no alignment guide.
what have you guys done to secure the lenses into the bezel?
when there are no notches in bezel.
or have some simply attached the lens top end of the light tubes?
