Issues With A Pillar Holes
« on: April 20, 2017 - 02:42:57 PM »
Working to install a replacement a pillar. I have it laying on the car and I noticed that the holes are not lining up. Maybe 1/2-1" below the cars holes, the square hole is the worst. Top/sides of part are lined up good. I may be able to force it up a bit when I go to put clamps on it.

Anyone ever had a problem like this? It is almost like I will need to recut the square hole and weld the old one.

The A-pillar hole locations changed a couple different times over the years.  Are you replacing the plastic A-pillars on the interior or the actual metal A-pillars on the body?

Sorry the exterior piece, a pillars/a pillar cover.

Since I think you're referring to the metal portion here, I'd carefully measure both and compare them. If your replacement one varies from the oem one, then you know who the culprit is and can make changes accordingly. But, if they measure the same, then it sounds like you may need to slip a jack in to push up the edge of the roof, as either the roof or cowl is to close to each other. Measure the windshield opening as well; that'll help eliminate variables. Good luck.

If you can post a few pictures, that might help us give you better advice. I just replaced both of my hinge pillars right under the A pillars. There is also a corner piece which connects the A pillar and overlaps the hinge piece. I have photos of all this and can also take measurements for you. I'm not that far ahead of you on metal work it sounds like.
