put the dash back together yesterday and obviously PO has replaced the cluster potion of dash bezel as it has that round fasten seatbelts light and the wood grain is different than the bezel around the headlight switch area, oh well I will search for a correct 72 bezel

Just to add to the confusion... where do the reset knobs come through?  The wood grain or the lens of the gauges?

If the reset knobs come through the woodgrain, that's a 70-71 dash that should have a 8k tach.

If the reset knobs come through the lenses, then its a '72-'74 style that from the factory had a 7k tach. Notice on the pic with the seatbelt light there are no holes in the woodgrain near the bottom of the gauges so the rest knobs go through the lenses of the gauges.

Stuff gets changed through the years.  8k tachs can be bought.

The Fasten seatbelt deal I think was a 1974 seatbelt interlock deal.

The model year 1972 does not tell the whole story (Assuming your car is a 1972) as to what dash the car has.  I have an early 1972 SBD 8/17/71and it has from the factory a 1971 style dash.

Most people do not add the seat belt light so I'm guessing you have a1974 Rally dash (possibly to replace a standard dash?) in your 1972 with a replacement 8k tach?  Just a crazy guess....
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

A 70 style face will cover the seatbelt light hole thats in the backing plate.  If you do buy a new plate, be sure and get the original style that the gauge lettering is stamped into the metal. Be careful of restores. Some people will buy the cheap covers and use silver paint around the edges.

my reset knobs come through lens, I can clearly see the wood grain on headlight switch side is a different shade/grain than the wood grain on the rest, my assumption is they replaced wood grain housing
