1970 Cuda Pitman Arm Search
« on: August 02, 2017 - 08:07:17 AM »
I've searched the forum and a lot of the threads dealing with this issue are older.  I'm searching for a pitman arm for a 1970 Cuda.  I purchased a Hotchkis fast turn pitman arm and  idler arm but that turned into a joke.  The pitman arm castle nut threaded on well past the cotter pin hole and Hotchkis's answer was to use a washer.  I noticed it crushed the rubber boot and split it.  I'm returning both soon.

I looked at FirmFeel.  They have them, about $200 for both.  The guy I talked to was great, suggesting that they were not the cheapest, and if I could find them cheaper then go for it.  I really appreciated his honestly.  The pictures on FirmFeels website show no rubber boots at all.

I've seen some posts about the quick turn arms being a problem with aftermarket headers.  My Cuda will have a small block in it and read where some people experienced no issues with the quick turn arms and the headers.

Anybody have some tips on purchasing pitman arms for a 1970 Cuda?  Thanks!!!

I just redid my front suspension with a mix of QA1 and Firmfeel. Yes it's a bit expensive but well worth it. I believe QA1 sells em too. Moog may as well. I'd call jegs, or go to RockAuto.com. I went with the normal ratio arm along with the stage III firm feel box. I agree, the guys were great to talk to.

Did the FirmFeel stuff work well and was of good quality?  You may have sold me on the FirmFeel stuff.  I just want to have to quick screwing around.  I've got as rebuilt 16:1 box and don't want to have to screw around down the road with the header issue.

Thanks!!!

I can't speak to longevity yet. but so far my cuda has never been better. I went firm feel stage III steering box which came with their normal ratio Pittman arm. I also have Firm Feel Upper control Arms. QA1 lower control arms, QA1 adjustable shocks, QA1 adjustable strut mounts. My thinking is it's a bit expensive up front, but these cars are an investment. Do it once, do it right.

Firm Feel was of good quality, customer service was great, and they answered questions as I had them. I believe you would be happy picking up a Pittman arm from them. On the flip side its an accessible part and a Moog arm may work just as well and can always be upgraded down the road if you need to for not much effort.
