71 340 worth?

 what's it worth, pulled due to burning oil about  6-8yrs ago. Complete engine

Junk cars can easily sell for 15-20k and restored 340 4 speed cars can bring 50k. Toss some pictures up. They are always in high demand.

I think he's talking about the engine only. As to what it's worth, that's kind of like asking how high's up? Oil consumption usually indicates ring/piston issues and can be complimented by worn, leaky valve guides. so, you're left with a block, that may or may not clean up under .060", junk pistons/rings and cam/timing components, probably usable rods, a crank that will hopefully clean up and doesn't have thrust bearing surface issues ( or it's economically junk, too), an intake, timing cover and heads that'll need guides, a valve job and machining. Many guys these days go the a/m head route since it's so close price-wise to re-manning the old ones, so unless you get lucky and find a guy who's absolutely got to have a 71 block, there's not a huge amount of value left. Ask yourself what you'd pay for a builder block/crank and heads and I bet you're pretty close to what it's worth. Just my  :2cents:
