clips lower vinyl top molding 73 Challenger
« on: June 25, 2017 - 12:22:52 PM »
Hello  , I renewed my vinyl roof....   but sadly 6 of the plastic clips, that hold the lower trim molding are broken..

I ordered 10 Clips here in Germany.. the white ones o the pic...but sadly they don´t work - too slim... the molding doesn´t hold tight.

as you can see the origional Clips are different from what I got here... ( the white ones )

I need 10 of those   GRAY  clips...  So if someone  has some clips for sale..or can tell me where I can find some....  That would be great !!

Thank you
Juergen

I ran into the same issue with my 73 Challenger.  The new reproduction clips are too flimsy and don't hold the trim tight to the body.  I ended up using the 1970 style clips that bolt to the body.  I drilled holes right next to the "pins" that hold the original clips.  No one will know unless they get inside the trunk and look for the nuts on the back side.

The 1970 clips resemble the ones that hold the quarter panel end pieces on.  I would think you should be able to find a clip like that where you live.

Good solution. I can add, that if you do drill the skin for screws, be sure and add a sealant to keep moisture out of the trunk. This was just ONE of the areas that allowed water into the trunk.

The original clips had a rubber washer around the stud to seal them to the body.  The replacement clips may or may not have the washer.  I used a little bit of "strip caulk" around each hole.
