thought vacuum advance had to do with getting a complete burn, rather than
a fast burn?

Ok, if float level is low , would be running out of gas by accelerating hard to the shift point, then the level catches up each time.

Have a new fuel pump and pushrod installed also.

You may want to get a carb kit so you can completely clean and adjust the Carter carburetor. The main jets are located in the floor of the float bowls, which is right where any dirt wants to go, creating a fuel restriction.  You will need to get the number off of the carb to get the correct kit (stamped into the front corner of the base, i.e. 6212S etc). Here's an example:

Thanks, forgot about that.
I have just about all parts to adjust anything, not sure if I had ordered the gasket and  rebuild kit after I bought the carb. Will check parts room, order if needed. I will probably tear up a gasket anyhow just checking the float level.

Good luck with your carb recon! Its all in the cleaning and adjustments. The instructions that come with the kit are very good. Post if you have any questions.

Found the carb gasket rebuild kit, probably less than 500 miles on brand new totally reconditioned carb.
Have every part to adjust up or down a few sizes, will try the float adjustment first.
I even have the chemtool can and cleaner to dip the carb if needed.
I have rebuilt Harley S & S and Bendix carbs before.
Keep it clean and watch the little parts dont go flying.
And do one adjustment at a time to note the changes.
Maybe order an AFR setup also to verify settings.

Yep, all the same rules apply on carb recon IMO! An AFR gauge would be very helpful too. :2thumbs:

A good AFR gauge ( Innovate for example ) is well worth every penny !!
