Author Topic: Stock shocks too long for lowered suspension-Lowered rear shock mount bracket???  (Read 1505 times)

So my Challenger is lowered about 2-3 inches, and my new adjustable rear shocks have about 1" of travel.   Theses are expensive shocks and don't really want to replace them.   Has anyone seen/made lower shock mounts drop brackets?  I really only need about 2 more inches of travel to keep it from bottoming out.   

I've seen them for jeeps to "raise" the mounting point.  Thought about just turning them upside down and bolting them to leaf spring plate to keep it from rotating on the lower shock mounting point.   

Any thoughts?

If this seems like it won't work, does anyone know of a shorter QA1 single adjustable shock that would work in its place?

So I figured out a solution to extend my rear shocks so they don't bottom out.   I installed a 2" lowering block between my leaf springs and my shock mount plate.  Works like a charm.  I painted them black so they disappear.  It doesn't change my height or stance at all, just lowers the shock mounting point 2".   

I thought I'd share that trick in case anyone else has this issue.

Thinking outside the box...nice!  I would still think of this as a temp solution though. Maybe list your shocks for sale. When/if they sell, get the proper length. You might never have an issue with your setup but if it were me, it would always be in the back of my mind. Check the U-bolts and blocks often.

Thanks, it works just as good as factory.  I appreciate your concern,  but I'm using new shackles and bolts.  I've scrutinized this from every angle, and I don't see how there could be any kind of problem with the setup.  There certainly isn't any safety concern or clearance issues either. 

I plan on rechecking the torque on the nuts after I get a few miles on it, but am satisfied that it's safe.   Now if I could do the same with the front, I'd really be cooking with gas.  : )
