My swap was similar to Heminut but 5.7 ,727 sb . This was all new in a crate from Mopar. At cruises and shows drives spectators nuts with the stock carb air cleaner and coil on plug valve covers.
My opinion on the newer swap is it's become the Small Block Chevy of the swap for Chryslers. Sure, it was kinda cool years ago, but now, It's like convertible HEMI Cudas. They are everywhere. A Guy in a Mag not too long ago said it best "I refuse to sell this thing (Convert. '70 Cuda) because i know as soon as I do within two years it'll have a HEMI and be on BJ"...Too many people doing the "In" thing right now and dumping a 5.7 Hemi in thier older cars. I need for someone to come up with a $1000.00 PORTED EFI set up for a BB Chrysler. THEN, the WOW factor will be there for me and EFI/Newer swaps. Until then, I'll stick with my Holley's and 440's. Too much $$$ Swapping in a newer Hemi.
You made a great point. I bought a Cuda with 440/6 pack performance crate motor that dynoed at 486 hp. I hate the carbs but like the nostalgic Mopar big block 6 pack idea. I came very close to buying a 392 6.4L and doing the swap. Even with a killer deal on the engine, $3500, I figured it still would have cost me around $12-15 all in to do the swap and I would still have the same horsepower. Just does not make sense. But I found a company called F&B that makes a fuel injection 6 pack set up. It is pricey though, around $5-6k and I would still have to change my tank plus install. But this is a unit that very few people have and allows me to keep the traditional Mopar 440/6 pack set up but have the modern convenience and tunability. Just my two cents.
