'71 Cuda 383 Power Steering Pump Pulley Diameter
« on: May 27, 2017 - 01:26:30 AM »
On a 1971 Cuda 383, does anyone know if the diameter of the power steering pump pulley is the same length between a non-A/C and A/C car?  Any help is appreciated.

72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

So based on the Year One link, there is only one size pulley.  Safe to say?

That would be my guess. I've have big block cars with power steering (no AC) and the pulleys were the same as the one in a friends big block 70 Charger that had AC.

Maybe a safe bet, but would not bet my life on it

Well, the reason I was asking about the diameter difference was that I recently converted from A/C to non-AC and have noticed that the power steering belt rubs against the water pump pulley when the engine is running.  It is just a slight rub.  I tried tightening the belt but didn't help.  Maybe I need to try it again or I may not be doing it correctly?

So the power steering belt rubbing against the water pump pulley is typical for these engines?

Yup.... Doesn't hurt anything except the paint on the water pump pulley.... Funny thing is it actually helps prevent the P/S belt getting thrown at high rpm's...
