    What else do I need to convert.

    I'd avoid Edelbrock Carbs

    72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

    1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

    I have an Edelbrock thunder series 1806 on my 340. I took it out of the box, bolted it on, adjusted the idle setting and haven't touched it sense. That was about five years ago.

    I too like the edelbrock carbs for simplicity and reliability but I did notice a drop in performance switching to this carb. It was a noticeable drop but I was okay with it because I wanted it to work flawlessly every time I got in it. It works so well that I have gone months without starting and no issues. That was never the case with my Holley.

    Where as my FiTech runs flawlessly all the time & makes power equal to the Holley on it's best day....  Just another option...

    I know have strong feelings for one carb or another......have had many Holleys and Eldos......want a reliable carb that is hassle free....

    Over the last 10 years on these sites, I have seen a lot of
    bad reports on the Eddy Carbs. Going from an Eddy to a Holley
    on my 440 Cuda was a big jump in power/performance.

    The eddy afb 1406 is one of the worst carbs ever built
    In the 60 Chrysler  did not use the AFB , the use the superior AVS which at least has an adjustable spring loaded secondary door not a non adjustable weighted door .
     I have struggled to set up numerous 1406 for customer with Zero success , the fist thing I do is set the float level as it is always wrong & drill ho;es in the counter weight as it is always to heavy & slow to open . if you have any ca, at all you cannot adjust the air bleeds so it will respond without a lag , they one make 3 squirters small medium & large , they come with medium & often you still have a bog even with the large squirter so then you have to drill carefully to get more pump shot .
     later Chrysler used the 800 cfm Thermoquad on the 340
     Literally any carb will perform better in my experience you are just throwing you $$ away , if I cannot trade them I toss them out & refuse to install them on any car for a customer .

    750-799 cfm #1411 Eddelbrock / Electric choke heater and fit for a 404-460 cu. in. That's why it works so well on the LD 340 intake. a race type open plenum.
            Jet the secondary's need change 8% up to .113 and raise the floats along with the all important restitution the needle seats up to .110. It won't hold the fuel a dual feed center hung Holley, so you need to up the fuel volume to feed it.
          The Thunder (load) spring door model is going to be a roid, when weather changes the tension on spring.
             Good idea to drill out the weights if your carb. is a 650 on a 340, it can, no way  open as fast as the secondary's on a 3 deuces @1200 cfm. But who wants to bother? I just put on of the Holleys I have; 3310 plus the Proform body or 4150 type 900 dp. 
         The point here is care free for the longest time. Starts and runs like it's warm right off, no hesitation with the stock type fuel pump. Plus you get a book on how to adjust all category's.   If you can read it's your baby. Especially if your only used to stock type carbs.
