tunnel ram trouble!
« on: September 01, 2002 - 11:37:12 PM »
I bought a 72 cuda about a year ago,  and the guy i bought it from threw in a weiand tunnel ram with 2 600cfm holleys that he also received when he purchased the car.  the car has a 440 with an aftermarket  mopar cam, im not sure what size it is though. now my question is,  are two 600s too much carb for my motor?   because i have had a really hard time getting it to run properly.

It should help to get rid of the tunnel ram set up right away!

Try and get an Edelbrock Torker II or a Weind Team G intake for starters. If possible put a Holley 800 double pumper on for now!

I am no means an expert on this, but those with better advice should be along soon!

Welcome aboard!  :)

It is partly due to the size of the carburation but it has a lot to do with the design of the intake , the tunnels are not designed for street use , they are designed for 3500-8000 rpm & work poorly at best on the street for the most part , they can be made to work with a lot of tuning & vacuum secondary carbs but a M1 or Holley Street Dom intake will outperform it

physco is right ( i hope that doesn't go to his head) lol. The duals on a tunnel sure look great but really want to be run hard. I was concidering them this year but after doing the math our street 440's even inching around that 500 hp can't inhale more that a good 750 of 800 cfm can deliver. I topped my 440 with an eddelbrock 800cfm & eddelbroke RPM dual plne. I like!. But be cafeful if anyone buys that intake, it's pretty tall.
