P51 Mustang WW2 and T/A scoop

Received a T/A hood from YearOne. I became curious about the hood's design. Read the designers were inspired by the P 51 Mustang WW2 fighter plane's belly air scoop. The plane's air scoop was intended to cool the engine at speeds over 400 mph and be able to fly faster than the UK Spitfire which had radiators in the wings for cooling. It worked! the P 51 Mustang cold fly about 40 mph faster.

Whether or not the P51 provided inspiration I cannot say but I do believe that the TA scoop and others emanated from NACA scoop designs of the era. If you look at many performance vehicles of that time you will see a reoccurring design to a degree.
