cuda carpet fitment

alright so more BS,
went to put in my new carpet in a 71 cuda, doesn't fit of course,
I paid extra to have the edges "hemmed" and they are not, also it came in two pieces.
"molded" they claimed but it is not shaped at all.
so where the original two pieces?
since its two pieces, in front of center console and behind, is it pass over lap driver or versa, also isn't this the edge that should be hemmed?
also each side is retardly long and wide.
any help for fitment or placement?
I was hoping to have a foot dimmer preinstalled hole to locate it off of, but of course this hole is not there either.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

A lot to unpack here..

1. As I recall the originals were all one piece
2. I believe the "hemmed" edges are the front (front of the console) and back (under the back seat)
3. new molded carpet doesnt seem molded when you get it due to how its shipped, you need to lay it out and let it relax. If the sun is warm where you are  lay it out in the sun.
4.  the two piece overlap at the front side of the rear floor pan (think where a passenger's feet would be if sitting in the back seat, the overlap is in front of that
5. sides are always long/wide on new carpet to allow fittng
6. I dont think I have ever seen the dimmer switch pre-cut; way too many variables in customer cars to include customs without a foot dimmer. Not that hard to fit.

What brand carpet is it?  I have used and seen carpet for a 70 Cuda from different sources and they all have been two pieces.....with the back edge of the front piece being hemmed.  The front piece overlaps the rear piece and that puts the hem right between the two front seats.

I can tell you without a doubt when it comes to the original 80/20 loop style carpet, ACC is the best!

As the other reply stated, even ACC doesn't have the hole for the floor dimmer precut and the sides are also long for "trim on installation"  Both pieces from ACC are definitely molded though.

Again, if you're buying carpet...there is no other than ACC!

I agree that ACC is a great product.  I went with the 80/20 loop and special backing.  It is large for sure but the molded items are pretty close.  I bought mine from Rock Auto, pretty good pricing.

alright I figured out a lot this weekend, first the carpet brand was OER, very cheap thin and poorly colored and cut, it was also a set of two passenger (rear) pieces with no front piece...that's why I had such fitment issues as I did.
I returned it and ordered a ACC set. thanks for all the help!

Here are some tips when you do put it in.

Put the seat belt/seat bolts in first.  It makes it easier to locate and trim them once the carpet is installed. same with the headlight dimmer.
Get or borrow a good pair of scissors, ones used for carpet/upholstery installation, you wont regret it.
If your car is a four speed, remove the shifter.
Trimming the part that goes up under the dash can be tricky, trim and fit often and DO NOT cut any seat belt, shifter, holes until you are happy with the fit.
as other have stated, put the carpet out in the sun and let it relax for awhile, it is molded and it can be a little tuff to see where, but it is there.

Take your time, you can do this.
