New England road trip (sugestions needed)

I live in Quebec and I'm planning a road trip in New England with my wife for our 10th wedding anniversary. We're looking mostly at New-York, Vermont and New-Hampshire, but could also go to Maine.

Any suggestions as to nice roads with great scenery or places we have to visit?
