273 Engine swap
« on: May 22, 2018 - 05:39:41 PM »
I have a 1970 Barracuda with a slant six with an auto trans. I have the opportunity to buy a 273 that runs great. Is the swap worth it or should I put a 318 or 360 in it. I'm looking for a little more power and a daily driver and not a racer. Other than the K member is there anything else major I will need to do?  Thanks

While the 273 is/was a great engine, I wouldn't go through all the trouble for it when you can go 318, 340 or 360 (same amount of work). No replacement for displacement...
Current Mopar
70 Challenger RT 440-6 EFI, 73 Cuda 416-6 EFI
05 Hemi Durango, 01 Ram 4x4, 14 Ram 2500 4X4, 10 PCP Challenger 6 spd RT, 01 Viper GTS ACR, 52 B3B w/330 Desoto Hemi, 70 Hemi RR (under const)
Past Mopars
9 x Challengers. AAR Cuda, 4 RR, 2 GTX, 4 Chargers, etc... (too many to list)

Very welcome. If it were me, I would drop the slant six with the K frame and trans, then put a V8 K member in and drop in a newer magnum as they are plentiful and already have a roller cam. I'd run EFI on it and enjoy the car.

Thanks. I'm looking for a K member as we speak.
