Heater Contro Panel Paint Texture
« on: August 15, 2018 - 09:37:07 AM »
I want to restore the non AC Heater Control Panel and I have noticed that there are some paint that is coming off (see pic). Under the paint I can see plastic with no texture..
Now, if I remember well I saw on other Cuda that the front of the Heater Control panel has some Texture. Now my question is: what is coming off is the original paint?
Or did it come from factory with no paint and somebody painted it with textured black? Can you post pictures of the OEM finish?

It looks like someone painted it. The original textured ones has the texture as a part of the plastic.

You can somewhat replicate the texture by using spray on truck bed liner (like a spray can), you have to play with the distance you spray from as that gives you the texture. It certainly isn't exact but it does work.

This thread on the other board says that the texture was in the paint not the plastic
http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/1431545/heater-control-panel-radio-faceplate-and-dash-bezel.html

I used to have a thread I printed to a file where Jules described how he restored these.  He used a crinkle paint.  Damned if I can find it now on my hard disk.

I could be incorrect (wouldn't be the first time). Now that I think about it, that is probably right but its been awhile since I stripped on.
