70 Cuda Trunk struts
« on: May 14, 2019 - 01:46:40 AM »
Been having trouble getting my trunk torsions to stay in place, the little plastic blocks keep coming off the bars and won’t guide the hinges. I think the body shop that replaced my Dutchman panel may have not welded the hinges and hangers back onto the bottom of the panel straight. Are there any kits, or has anybody made a strut type deal for a E body trunk lid so that I  can pull the torsions all together? Not a crazy $ one like a Ring Bros billet deal, just a clean funtional set up that doesn’t cost $300. Thanks for any suggestions.

I made my own.

You need to get an idea of distance between the trunk floor and the hinge (there is a hole already in the hinge) when open and closed.

Once you know this distance, you can go to a local camper/topper store and purchase the struts you will need (need 2). Also get 4 of the ball studs that the struts attach to.

then its a matter of making a small bracket for the trunk floor that you either bolt on or weld on.

there is another option, someone on here I think was selling a system that has the strut going back over the wheel well and bolting to the bracing behind the back seat.

Thanks! That’s exactly what I was looking for. My floor was cut out years ago when the car was back halved so I can measure pretty easy off of the bracing from under the car before the floor is fabricated back in. My last Duster had a fiberglass trunk lid that I made a bracket for, from the drip rail on the side to the hinge mount on the trunk lid. I just didn’t want to drill through the drip rail on the Cuda if I didn’t have to. Thanks for your help
