How can I tell if I have green bearings in my 8 3/4 axle?
« on: November 12, 2019 - 05:15:29 PM »
Folks

I'm installing a rear disk brake conversion kit on my 8 3/4 axle that requires green bearings installed in the axle:  How can I tell if green bearings are already installed?

if green bearings are already installed there will not be any adjusters on the axle

I took a look at an exploded diagram     Correct me if I am wrong:

1. It appears that the adjuster we are talking about is only on the right (passenger side) of the axle

2.  If that is true, how can I visualize this adjuster (what needs to be taken apart), if needed, to see the adjuster

3.  What does the adjuster look like?

You are correct, only on one side. There will be a bolt with a locking tab (kind of a flat piece of metal with a hook on it), the adjuster itself is a ring with notches in it (which the hook would go into to keep it from turning). Here are some images, the ones where one of the rings has teeth, thats the adjuster style. The ones with just round bearings is the "green" bearing style.
