Sound Deading Doors
« on: October 10, 2019 - 11:25:36 AM »
Where should sound deadening material such as Dynamate be placed on the doors? I've seen it on the inside on the doors and on the outside of the doors (under the interior door panels). I was thinking about using Lizard skin. Has anyone had experience with Lizard skin?  Will Lizard skin deaden more sound? Thanks

I used hushmat on both my challenger and cuda; I put a little on the inside of the outer panel (door skin) and I put it on the inside panel (part under the actual inner door panel). I tried not to cover anything that I would need to get to, adjustment screws/bolts and holes. There is no format really for doing this and to be honest it doesn't take a lot to work.

The wind noise is subdued by a thick plastic sheet, sealer held.
It deteriorates and tears when you remove it for door lock servicing.
And factory applied undercoating type tar sheets 3/16 thick panels on the door skin.
Without the plastic it's got wind noise at the windows. I used the thick black constriction material normally used under the concrete house slab between the gravel as a moisture barrier. I suppose you could use a stick on mat in addition to the factory noise deadener. The floor is an area not covered from the factory. There, carpet padding will work with out adding a flammable rubber product. Exhaust is noisy, and headers need fiberglass wrapping at the head.

Sound deadener on the doors really gives them a solid sound/feel, I also replace teh plastic with new plastic (like the stuff you get at home depot, I think 5 mil thick) and use butyl to put in in pretty much like the factory did.
