bh 1970 M46
« on: February 27, 2019 - 11:19:27 AM »
So as usual I'm always looking for one of these.  I just realized that I don't have a thread here about these.  so I'll start simple.  https://forum.e-bodies.org/cars-for-sale-or-wanted/8/wanted-1970-barracuda-with-m46-option/551/

Another one has surfaced so my mind is on these cars.
I currently have one with no fender tag sitting in Alabama I need to go get.
There are about two dozen known to exist.  Obviously I dont' know where they all are.  But I know about ten of them that don't go anywhere.  I have two of them.  both in very rusty condition.  An L code auto and an N code 3 speed.  Both EV2.

If anyone knows of one of these or knows of a set of scoops I'm very willing to purchase.

yes it is.  Glad it's at least been looked at.

There is an M46 that popped up on febo.com.  I was going to purchase the car about 6 months ago but there is no fender tag and no build sheet.  Just all the M46 paint stuff.

There is one in Arizona I'm thinking of purchasing but it's really barely even a body.  But there is a fender tag.  and a shell with no bottom or front.  Sad really. No sheet. no vin.  just a fender tag.

well as many conversations as I have had about these not many people ask that.

Really, I'm kind of a scoop guy. I really like scoops on stuff.  And my favorite muscle car platform is the ebody.
there aren't many of them made.  There are thousands of BS cuda's out there. I can buy a BS cuda more often.
I didn't say cheap.  Just said I can buy a V code or an R code any given day of the week.
The M46 is just a small option package that is on a "cheap" platform.  So it's easier for a broke ass like myself to collect.

Then there is the whole " 400" made thing.  Seems there were less but we will never know.  Only a few known currently. I think I'm up to 28 that I have numbers on.

Then there is the whole black out thing.  I'd love to have a tx9 M46 with the blue stripe and a blue interior.  Not out of line for what could have been ordered.

I like rare options.
For instance, I would like to own a 72 V21 car.  Of course I can add to that v21 but i'd be happy to have one.

The other thing I would like to own in my lifetime is a 72 factory sunroof Cuda   Only year they put the sunroof on a cuda.
I'd be fine with a bh or a bs with a sunroof.  Cool option.

So then I'll combine that dream and have a 72 V21 Sunroof car in petty blue.

Cheap man's hot rods.

Nothing wrong with any of that. I had never heard of the M46 option until I saw one of your posts and had to look it up. I cannot say that I have ever seen one and given the production number I can see why. I am pretty sure that many of them got those scoops removed and tossed somewhere along the way by people who didn't appreciate them and thought them weird. I have to admit if I would have seen one before learning about them I would have never believed it was a factory option.

To this point, things like this are what pulled me into Mopar's from a young age, no 2 of them were ever the same and there were many weird options and builds along the way. I am sure you would agree that there is currently far more V code and R code equipped Ebodies (Not VIN'd that way of course) running around than were ever actually made originally. I was never a fan of the 71 Cuda, they are ok but I personally prefer the 70, then the 72-74. You cannot got to any Mopar event without a stream of 71's (all with shakers of course) showing up.

Thanks for bringing these rare cars to light. My 73 was Petty (Corporate) blue originally with a blue interior (318, AT w/rear defroster). Very low option car, but I needed it lime green to emulate a 70 AAR I once owned.

I could not find my pictures of the different materials.  I will update this when I take new pictures.

The insides are made with two materials.  Straight metal and aluminum.
Then the outside is moulded to the metal with the elastomeric bumper material.  At least that's what it appears to be.  I'm sure Ma Mopar didn't use a different material just for a run of 400 sets of scoops.
The aluminum backed scoops held up waaaay better than the metal backed scoops.  The metal backed scoops pretty much all have bubbles from water getting between the elastomeric rubber and the metal.  Where as the aluminum doesn't rust and doesn't have bubbles.
I have only seen one set of aluminum scoops.  The others I have seen are metal.

Would love to find a pair of NOS.
