Hood Hinges for 70 Challenger
« on: January 09, 2020 - 05:50:45 PM »
Hey guys, I bought some "new" hood hinges for my 70 Challenger and find that I literally need to do a full court press in order to lower the rallye hood!  Guessing they are simply after market junk with an incorrect spring rate.

So, where can I get good hood hinges with a preference to stock looking?

Thanks all.........

Google 70 Challenger hood hinges and you'll get a selection. There seems to be 2-3 manufacturers with AMD being spoken of as the best and most expensive- $300pr. Caveat emptor. Speak to member Mopar Dave at Roseville Chrysler and he gives members a discount as well. Hope that helps!

Are you interested in a OEM set ?
they will need to be sent to a rebuilder.   Like Rick.

They are a very nice core set, $100 plus shipping.

I think Rick charges around $250 to restore them, but not sure.

I HAVE A PAIR OF '72 DODGE CHALLENGER HOOD HINGES STORED IN MY GARAGE. THEY ARE THE SAME AS FOR
THE '70 CHALLENGER. THEY NEED TO BE SAND BLASTED. IF YOU'RE STILL SEARCHING FOR THEM, I CAN SEND YOU PICS.

Here's a couple explanations of the difference in ebody hood hinges taken from other forums.

Yes, there are 3 or 4 different hood hinges.  In 1970 they used a smaller bolt (I think it was a 5/16") on the hood to hood hinge and a smaller "top bar" that bolted the hood hinge to the hood.  Those also had the "gears" or teeth in the hood hinge.  If I recall correctly, in 1971 they went to a larger "top bar" and a larger bolt, I think it was a 3/8".  They kept the gear or teeth style in 1971.  Later on (I think around 1972) they came up with a non gear (teeth) style hood hinge still with the larger top bar and 3/8" bolt.  Those are the 3 that I can think of right now.

What's the visual difference?

The width of the slot
1970 - clearance for 5/16" bolts, ~3/8" wide
1971 - clearance for 3/8" bolts, ~7/16" wide

To accommodate the larger bolts used.
