Hood scoop paint
« on: August 10, 2020 - 01:17:30 PM »
Any suggestions on a “proper looking” black paint for rallye hood scoop inserts for my ‘72? They were painted an obnoxious bright red before I acquired the car and I’d like to return it to as stock as reasonable. I currently don’t have a spray setup, so I’m hoping there’s some good rattle can options.

Thanks!

Originally they would have been body color, many people have painted them black which doesn't look bad depending on the color of the car.

He's taking about just the inserts.

As for any "proper looking" paint, sorry can't help ya. I just touch mine up with gloss black rattle can paint.

I've seen that red on inserts, I don't care for it either.

Hi there

I can't really help you with the paint. But I suggest you use a good cleanser for cleaning the lacquer before you start painting anything. Otherwise you are risking ugly little bunks and specks. If you're looking for a good cleaner I suggest you have a look at this page: https://www.meisterbob.de/lackreiniger-test/
Don't worry if you don't speak German. You can easily translate the article in any other language via Google translate.

Wish you all the best with your car

I would paint them satin black, look at VHT epoxy (they call it roll bar paint or something like that)
