Touchup Paint

I recently had to rebuild the motor in my 70 cuda and this weekend cleaned the engine bay. There is some extensive paint chipping and rust below the master cylinder, which I plan to fix/replace due to the leak.

After I grind away all the rust would it be an option to airbrush some sassy grass, then a clear coat? Does anyone have any other ideas of how to go about painting this corner of the engine bay?

Look for some single stage paint, much easier and tends to blend better. Make sure that you really clean that area, if there is brake fluid on the metal the paint will just flake off again.

Yep, what the man said, in spades. solvent wash the area before any sanding or you just sand the oils into the base of your want-to-be new paint job. I'd use a can or two of brake cleaner first, as it'll get into the nooks and crannies, use a scrub brush and then some hot, soapy water and a brush and then blow it clean/dry and do your scraping/sanding. When you've done that, blow it clean again, wash the area with a Pre-Kleeno type product with a wash/wipe method, tack it off and I'd shoot some epoxy primer on the affected areas and once dry, go with whatever system you end up deciding on. Whistle Jingle Bells as you work and Santa might just give you a present!   :cheers:

Here is something funny that is related to this subject. I have done a lot of "spray can overhauls" meaning I cleaned up the engine (usually at the local car wash). Wiped them down with brake cleaner or whatever I had and painted away. It seems that those car/engines retained their paint for years, however on engines I have really taken my time with, cleaned carefully and painted with an actual spray gun seem to lose their paint at a much faster rate. Probably really not a real deal but sure seems that way...
