318 Block/Auto Trans Combo (Value?)
« on: July 23, 2021 - 09:40:43 AM »
Just looking for opinions on this. I have the old 318 and automatic transmission combo that came out of my '72 Challenger sitting out in the barn. My issue is that the wife and I have decided that it is time to downsize our lives (sucks getting old). Our place is currently in contract, so we have to move soon. I love the idea of keeping it all as back up, but just not sure that moving it is feasible. If I were to sell these locally, what would be a fair price to ask? Everything was in working order back in the early 2000's when it last ran, but I'm sure it would all still have to be refreshed. Not plug and play in other words. I realize it's hard to place value on something you can't see. Just looking for a starting point I guess. Thanks.

Well, IMHO and as you've alluded to, the engine should be considered a core and the trans pretty much that, too. Having said that, I figure if you got a couple of hundred bucks for the pair, you'd be doing ok. Just my opinion and I hope you get more.

Thanks jimynick. I kind of thought that a couple hundred might be a fair enough price range, but I also didn't want to feel "taken" if that is all I got. I appreciate your input as always.

sucks to say a couple hundred bucks.  That's true though.

If I needed a 72 specific G code motor then the value definitely hits 600.

If it was the motor to my 72, I would pay you thousands for the motor.

Keep the motor with the car.  I know, pain in the ass.  My opinion of course.  But there is only one motor that is correct for your car.  The next guy will get sick to his stomach to hear that you sold it for 200 bucks.  Literally 2 nice dinners for Yourself and your Wife.

I look monthly for a /6, 3- 383's and a 440. Always hoping to reunite any of my cars with their original guts.
