Need glove box lock repair ideas

As you can see the chrome knob has come off the cylinder's mechanism. I can push it back on BUT it just spins around on it. I'm thinking about JB weld but don't know if it will last. If I got another lock, could the tumblers be swapped so I could keep the original key? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Any locksmith can key the lock to what you already have, so that wouldn't be a problem.  The two pieces are held together by crimping the edge of the chrome piece over the other.  If you put the two together, you should be able to take a hammer and a punch or small cold chisel and crimp the collar of the chrome bezel over the lock tumbler in four or five spots.

it is simple to swap the tumblers into another cylinder , just pop the tumblers out one by one & instal them in the same position in the other cylinder

Thanks guys. Since this needs to be a permanent fix I'll be looking for another cylinder when the swap meets begin again.

John, I'd be very surprised if Ma Mopar didn't use basically the same lock through the mid-80's.  You may be able to save yourself the special "E-body" pricing by hitting a salvage yard or picking up a glove box door (complete) for something less desirable.

those locks were used for decades , at least up into the diplomat RWD cars , you just need a paper clip to remove the lock but it has to be locked to get to the release clip

Many thanks again. Sounds like the real trick is finding any old one (e-body or not) that still has the key. The hunt is on.

I bought mine at a swap meet (door and all) for $5. Took it to a locksmith (mo key) and was in business for another $15.

I think I've got the same problem with mine although the knob hasn't come off.
I'm still trying to get the lock out of the door to see what's wrong.

there is a rib on he casting preventing the chrome ring from spinning , if thetab gets broken off the ring spins , if you have to remove the whole glove box door & take it to a locksmith to get it locked os it can be removed it is easy to do

To replace the lock tumblers i have called a local locksmith near me and they have replaced it easily.
