72 Challenger Electrical Questions
« on: January 22, 2022 - 04:37:48 PM »
Hello everyone.  New here as a result of my newly acquired 72 Challenger money pit. Couple ?'s I have on some problems with my money pit.

1.  Had a temporary massive failure of all of the following at the same time: temp, oil pressure, tach gauges, radio, wipers & turn signals.  Condition self corrected after a restart.  I'm assuming a loose connection.  Are all of the above on the same circuit?  Is there a master feed to the circuit that controls the above?

2.  Fuel gauge shows E at all times.  Based on research most likely bad ground somewhere?

3. No gauge lights except for parking brake & hi-beam indicator - Bad dimmer switch?

2. What are the best assembly, repair & electrical manuals available for purchase?

Thanks in advance as I hope to get these issues resolved without much lightening of the wallet.

Firstly, welcome to the site. By the #'s 1- I don't know, but the main bulkhead connector has and is a notorious problem area and you want to look for any overheated connectors in it. 2- yeah, I'd try to make sure there's a good ground and also see if there's any current at the sender terminal at the tank. 3- it's possible the switch is bad, but it's also possible the bulbs in the light bar are all shot. You can remove the light bar and check. 4- the best manuals are the factory ones and they're out there, they're also available on CD if you look around and have a extensive wiring section. Hope this helps a bit.
