Bad Relay
« on: April 06, 2002 - 04:13:13 PM »
Great Site!! I have many tech questions for all of you out there. I have a 70 cuda 440 4 spd that I bought as a basket case. My problem is that I cannot get my starter to turn when I turn the key to the start position. I have new wiring harnesses from the firewall forward, new ignition switch, new strarter relay, new MP lightweight starter and a new battery that I relocated to the trunk with a MP battery relocate kit. When I turn the key to the start position, I do get power to "I" terminal on the starter relay, but that is it. Ido not have the clutch safety switch wired to the relay. Is this my problem??I can get the starter to turn if I jump it across on the relay. HELP!!!!!

let me check on my challenger, i don't have a safety switch on it, i think that it needs a ground on the relay. i'll check it out monday and post it for you late that night.

If you have no ground off the relay it will not operate , they normally ground through the neutral safety switch but you can jump it as well  ;)

Damn neutral switches...  ::)  I hate them..

Mine had fallen off so I couldn't start the car...

I put it back on, and now it is currently stuck so that the reverse light is always on while I drive!  ;D

What is it with these puppies?

I went out to start my Duster and nothing. I cleaned up my neg batt. cables and power to starter cable. (trunk mounted battery).

Nothing.

Re cleaned it all again. Nothing. Changed battery. Nothing.
Re torqued the starter to batt. cable. Fired right up! Warmed it up, shut it off, tried to re start...nothing...
but a buzzing sound from the engine compartment. Swapped relays, and it started up right away! Fortunately I have a few spares around.  ;) We'll see if it starts next time!  ???

It's got Hooker fenderwell's into about 3 ft. of 2 1/2" pipe, Sonic Turbo mufflers and about another 2ft. of pipe exiting out the side, just in front of the rear wheels.
Kinda like a Challenger T/A.

It's loud, but legal. Now open headers are a different story!  ;D ;D ;D

Sorry, I digressed from the topic. Doh!  ::)
