Dodge-Charger com Type Question
« on: August 06, 2005 - 10:01:28 PM »
I don't have any pictures yet, that said I came across a '68 Charger R/T sittin' in some guys front yard!! He said he would sell for $9,000. Car looks pretty complete , but has been sitting in the same spot for 8-10 years, probably doesn't run, and has the wrong motor, but it IS a '68 R/T, I checked out the vin XS29L8B161056. I offered him $7,000 right on the spot and he didn't even consider, said he had to have $9,000.  Car needs a total resto, but with a little work, could be a driver. Worth $9,000???

Yeah , I know. I thought I already mentioned that I DON'T have pics yet!! Just wondering if you think a '68 R/T that needs restored might be worth 9K? Here's a pic. Thanks for the link to the sorta kinda wannabe dc website.

if the car is complete & the body is solid it should be work 9K
some of the expensive parts to get are good fenders , grille ,hood, front disc brakes if most o fthat is there then you need to decide if it is worth 9 K to you

ya i know, old site was the shiz nit, well nuts happens and unfortunately we lost lots of info, some great members. new site has too many forums added, like some things could be in general tech. you know what im saying, its not gonna be same though :( Im pissed for while

1. How many times do I have to tell you we didn't lose "lots of info"?
2. Which "great members" are lost? I guess I only managed to notify the not-so-great ones...  :eeksmall:
3. Too bad you don't like all the new forums - I didn't design the site around what you wanted. I had many requests to make the site easier to navigate and so far I'm getting a lot of compliments. General Tech was getting too out of hand since it was a "catch-all" for anything and everything. That makes it very hard for anyone to search for something specific so the same questions get asked a million times. Besides, if I waited for months to make the changes then it would be too difficult to move all the threads. I guess I just can't make everyone happy.

As for asking this question there, it would make sense. I can't force anyone to stick around but how will the site grow if someone is turned off by what seems to be a fledgeling site with only a few members. Post any way and see what you get. The site is only three weeks old and already has over 650 members (most all of which were previously active on D-C.com). There's an average of 50 users online at any given time with 30 new members and 700 new posts each day. None of it would be possible without the participation and support of the awesome community that we had.

Back to the car... if it's been sitting in grass/dirt for that long then be sure to check it completely for rust. Did you look in the trunk, rear wheelwells, front floors, and behind the rear valence? How did the interior look? I'm assuming it's an auto but is it a column or console shift? Was there a fender tag with the car? The body stampings on a 68 match the VON number on the fender tag and not the VIN tag so without it you mostly have a #s matching dash (ok, not quite but close). As Chryco mentioned, the tough parts to find on those cars are the fenders, grill, and hood as well as taillights, vinyl top trim, a few dash pieces, console, and upper door pads. The factory disc brakes are $$$ to replace if it has them. If all those pieces are all still in good shape and the body is solid then $9k wouldn't be a bad deal. It's not a great deal but it's livable. Without pics it's nearly impossible to tell - I've seen "driver" cars for slightly more and basket cases for slightly less with all the original parts. In the end - is it worth $9k to you?

:iagree: Thanks Guys, Nice to hear from both of you  Hope the new site is even better than the old one  As for the car, it's a column shift, fender tag and body stampings match, and vin # is on dash, seems mostly complete, just been sitting around for awhile. I will post a similiar question on  The Charger Site. Sorry, Troy didn't mean to get you all worked up :gripe: :boxer: :burn: :stomp:   I do know that some people were a little confused as to what happened :dontknow: Good Luck!!

I'm not all worked up - this is normal for me when I've been busting my tail without any sleep. :) I just get annoyed when people (not you) spread stories that aren't necessarily true. Any way, there's not much I can do about the old site but I tried to get the new one up and running without missing a beat. There are a lot of really knowledgeable people there but it's still very much a work in progress.

Love those column shift R/Ts... well not really but I wouldn't turn one down. If it's complete or at least mostly there then definitely check it over thoroughly for rust. I have one car that's going to cost 3 times more for body work than the other just because of all the metal repair. Not having the original engine will hurt the collectability but it makes a good candidate for a street bruiser without worrying about the value. It's much easier to modify and enjoy a car that you don't have to worry about "correctness" on. Get it running and enjoy it.
