I know this gets beat to death, but ...

Everyone is concerned about how big of tire can you stuff under a barracuda without much modification and most of the questions are directed at “How wide can the tire be?”  My question is how tall is too tall?  Most of the combos that I see posted put the tires at 26 to 27 inches.   Reason being, is that I have seen a set on a 70 Roadrunner that I love the look of in terms of the right profile and how they look on an 18inch rim.  The tires turn out to be about 28.31 inches tall on a 10 inch rim and I am pretty sure should work in terms of the width with my current set up.  The tire is 295/45 18 and I would be pairing them with a 245/45 17 on the front.  What do you guys think?

28" fill the wheelwells out nicely on an E-body, once you start approaching 30" things get really tight in the wheel well. The tires I have on mine in the back are about 28" tall (305/45 17) and look right to "me". I'm running the same size tire in the front (245/45 17) as you want to run. I have a couple of other posts with pictures if you search for my handle. Spend some time getting the backspacing where you want it and they will fit up real nice.

Who makes a 305/45/17 tire?  I have not been able to find anyone.

BFG used to make them, goodyear may still make them, but they are not easy to find. The bfg's were relatively inexpensive ~180 each, the goodyears are about 500 each because they are an OE tire for the McLaren F1 and they are much more "square" shouldered than the bfg's. I think Toyo may make some 17's and 18's in larger aspect ratios now, but I haven't looked lately. My second choice was going to be a 275/60R17 which are pretty easy to find even though most of them end up being "sport truck" tires. My pet peeve is you can get tires as wide as you like, but unless you get into 19/20 inch diameter and up wheels, they all end up being 24 - 26 inches tall, and I don't like how the short tires look on the back of my car - just my opinion -
