I just scored a console.
« on: September 25, 2005 - 10:51:22 PM »
My friend GAVE me  a E body black A/t console for free. Some small cracks, but worth restoring without  much noticing after it's done.It just needs a little epoxy here and there. Woodgrain steel insert part is missing. I need a M/T console. Can it be used for a M/T with some modifications?  Sorry, no pics. None worth showing anyway...yet.   :worthless:

It was just sitting there in his garage on a shelf for the last 20 plus years yelling "help me"

 Topcat,
You need to know what year of insert you are looking for. 70 had 4 screw holes, while 71-74 had 5.

Edit - What I'm trying to say is, any insert will fit on a 71-74 console bottom. If you have a 70 console bottom, then I wouldn't think that 5th hole by the shifter would be there, so you couldn't put a screw there. Have I made any sense here???  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I would think you could trim the bottom to work with a 4spd and get a 4spd top plate.
