hood hinges
« on: October 04, 2005 - 03:15:46 PM »
Hi,
I am having trouble getting the hood to work right on my 73 Challenger.  Can anyone tell me if hinges differ from year to year on E bodies, or is it the same hinge for each year.  I bought a used set of hinges, but they don't seem to want to close right.  One side will close, the other won't.  Any info would be greatly appreciated, because the sucker is very heavy to lift on and off much more!!!  Thanks.

By "close right", what do you mean? Not aligning right, or the hood by the windshield needs to be pushed down? I had the latter problem. I just had to lube the springs some, then the problem went away.

Yeah, the driver side, by the windshield will not go down far enough.  WE have tried adjusting it a million times, everything lines up good, but just won't go down.  Something seems to be binding, and we have oiled etc, but so far no luck.  Any suggestions?

Hi, the 1970 hinges are differnt beacause in 71 they added grears to the hinge but they will all interchange from 70-74 e body, if you go to restorick.com he has a rightup in there about how to ajust them.

good luck.

Mine also had the same problem, except it happened on both sides.  I'd assume the springs are somewhat worn out and aren't functioning properly.  I haven't dealt with the problem yet since it's still under restoration, but maybe someone here will know a good place to find new springs.
