    Had an estimate for body and paint on my 70 Challenger. This guy has done many trophy winners and tells me he will Blast the underside however the body will get only hands sanding. I do have some dings and dents one over the rear wheel well that will take some work. Estimate around 10K. Does this sound reasonable? He will completely disassemble the car and put in on a rotesseri.

    That dosen't sound to outrageous. I assume you will be doing alot of the dissassembly yourself??

    That price included him doing  the dissassembly. I could probably get it for a little less if I did the tear down myself.Ihave some done Seat out,bumpers,gas tank out.
    Price included  dissasembly, blasting the underside , Body work--Hood dings, Rear end dings and dents, new trunk pans,dent over rear wheel well, hand sanding body to ready for paint.
    This guy is a mopar nut and has restored many in his shop.

    That is an awesome price!

    I completley dissambled mine and sand blasted the car prior to giving it to the paint guy and it is still costing me 5800 for paint and body work.  I am using acrylic enamel underneath and Polyurethane Base coat/Clear coat on the rest of the car.  i used the acrylic enamel because it is a harder paint and I am not putting undercoating under the car after paint.

    I am doing the undercoat I want it as original as I can.

    Why the rottiserrie then if your gonna go back with undercoating........ do everything to the car except stripping the bottom of the floor pans.......you can still do the inner fenders, inside rear qtrs and go back with semi gloss.    Once you get into putting car on a rottiserrie it gets expensive, time consuming big time and keeps your car in the shop for alot longer.........heck you can take the fenders and doors off yourself and strip the car yourself........not a problem and a labor of love.   I love to put stripper on a car and peel the paint off.    Thats dummy work.   Why pay $40 or more an hour to have a guy use a rachet and socket and charge you for twice as long as it takes you to pull off.      Spraying on stripper and using a single edge razor blade or other tools is fun and easy........  well maybe not always so fun, but definitely easy.   

    However though if work and family prevents you from this its easily understood why its better to pay a professional.     I guess I am on a budget also like others too.........as always Richard best of luck

    Hi,
    I think the price varys from what part of the country your in, Our shop is in the process of restoring a 70 440 6 pack challenger and we are doing that for 7,000.00 thats complet dissasmbly, putting it on a rotissarie, blasting it rust repair complete paint(engine bay,trunk,under,everything). This car is in good shape some rust on the lower rear quarters and some pin holes around the car. Things that willnt be done are the interior,chroming,and small parts resoration.   Our shop has done several ebodys and a lot of chevrolets. We are now working one a 70 challenger convertible, 70 v code challenger, 65 shelby gt 350, and a 71 chevelle........ I think 10,000 isnt a bad price if he is doing the hole under side and outside incluiding the engine bay. But only if he is make all metal repairs with metal not just mudding them in.

    I want to go the rottissaire way just to do a complete resto on the car. Every nut and screw will be remove and but back togeather. Iwant to return the undercoating because I want the car to be original.  The 10 K does include all metal repair,underside , engine bay  as well as working out a slightly pushed in back end and other dings. I was just going to replace the back panel but he said he would be able to keep the original metal I will continue to strip the car down myself which will reduce the price a little.

    My Challenger is on a rotisserie and was media blasted, quarters replaced, both floor pans replaced, trunk pan replaced, patch panels on the drivers lower door, patch panels on both lower rear fenders, trunk extension panel replaced, firewall repaired,windsheild and rear glass channels fixed, epoxy primered,and k member powder coated for $7000.00. Instead of using undercoating, I am having Lizard skin put on the under side and the frame rails POR-15.

     the lizard skin looks cool.
    My extra expense is in pounding out the dings and dent. I could just replace the front fender but I have NO rust so I will keep all the god metal.

    What's good about the lizard skin is you can leave it the way you spay it on and it looks like undercoating or you can sand it and paint over it. I wanted it for the heat and the rock chips and road debris that I will get going down the road, and also the the sound deadner.

    It sounds like the 10k is just to get it ready for paint?!?! In that case i'd say he's way off the mark

    We're doing a mustang at work. this is getting both 1/4s, inner and outer wheel wells, inner and outer rockers, full floors up to the firewall, new taillight panel, trunk floor, subframe connectors, new doors, and new fenders. so pretty much we're saving the roof and the firewall. he'll be around 11-12k INCLUDING paint, and all that metal work. thats also including all the parts..
