Spark plug Cross reference
« on: October 12, 2005 - 06:54:15 PM »
have a 73  340 ,headers, mallory unilite distributor, performer intake, 600 carb........I  got it with  autolite  #65  plugs in it? Does anybody know what a Champion  or NGK  plug is   cross referenced to this/  Also  i  have a manual  which shows a Champion N12Y  for 73  although they also call out a N9Y  for 1972.  I  guess I'm  just wondering where to start with a plug  for this combination? By the way  for those who responded prior to my header install question......thx......got one in from top/  and the drvr from the bottom.  Do you need to put a heat sheild on the starter or does it survive alright in the tight space with the headers?............thx.........d

I don't know if this will help, but it is a very good reference on the way champions are numbered.

Also, with champions and most domestic plugs, the higher the number, the hotter the plug.

An Autolite 65 is about equal to a RN12YC (I'm not sure how close)

Good Luck

http://www.ngk.com/ has a cross reference application on the page, just dump in your other brand plug part number and go.....
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....
