318s heading to the dyno tomorrow mornin
« on: October 20, 2005 - 10:08:54 AM »
Gotta chassis dyno appointment tomorrow. What do ya think it will pull??

Motor:
318 - .030
9:7.1 CR -91/100octane mix
360 J-heads- 56cc chambers - 2.02 valves - Comp 901 Springs
Comp 480/280 Hydraulic Cam 270AH
Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake
Eddie 650cfm Thunder AVS
Mopar Peformance Electronic Ignition - MSD Blaster Coil - MSD Heli-Core Wires
Heddman Headers w/2.5" Flowmaster Super 40 Series Mufflers..
Clutch Type Viscious fan

Trans:
Little Tired 904 - its older but still chrips 2nd with 2.76s and 28" tall tires, TransGO TF-2 Shift Kit, 3000stall converter

Now the trans is a little tired, so it may bring that driveline loss % up some. The carb is pretty much out of the box, i swapped metering rods/springs, but no major tuning as of yet.

So what do ya think?!

Cool...I'd be interested and hearing how she does.  Pixies, little 318 should be pretty close.

I'd assume somewhere around 225-240 at the rear wheels.  It's hard to say because I really haven't had much experience with modified 318's.  I know 400hp can be pulled from them and still retain reliability, so I'm assuming your combo is producing around 330hp from the engine.

Alrighty i finally got the 318 dynoed today. Pretty much untuned, we didnt tinker with the timing, or anything at all. It was at 240RWHP at 5100RPM. The Dyno guy, for some reason cut the pulls short at 5500RPM, for no apparent reason...i didnt notice until i got home and was looking at the chart.

But the HP is steadily increasing still at 5100rpm, but then the pull ends..I'm going to try and get a re-run if they will lemme do it sometime this week. I KNOW there is more there...

thats to the dyno chart. The pic may look like the HP is dropping off. but thats just the angle. It is still climbing...max hp 240 @ 5100rpm, pull ended at 5100rpm...he had no reason to end the pull like the HP was going down or somethin...

If you see the chart, the HP curve starts to peak around 4900-5K rpm. I think the dyno tester assumed that it was pretty downhill from there. Rather than risk damage to your motor (there's been plenty damage done in these RPM ranges), so he cut it off from there.
