Progress Slows Again
« on: October 26, 2005 - 02:07:44 AM »
Just when you think things are going smoothly that old tin worm raises it's head somewhere you weren't prepared for. Previously I posted that the Challenger looked like making the road before Christmas, that now appears to have been optimistic with the discovery of some rust in the deck filler panel which had been hiding under the last scrap of vinyl roof.
Now I have to get a repair section out from the US & sweet talk my mate the metal guru into fitting it up before I can send the car to the paint shop to have the roof painted. I only just ordered my new American Racing 200s wheels the other day in anticipation of them arriving when the car returned painted.
OH WELL (sigh) I'll just spend the time working on the Plymouth I just adopted (see thread on other mopars off topic).

Cheers SoS

Cheer up, you'll get there!
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Just a minor setback!  Don't let it dampen your spirits.  She'll be done soon enough.

Like the posts above, never mind mate better now than later, at least your doing the job properly.
I think the spot your talking about is the one of the only spots on Lucy that needed rust repair.

Cheers,
Carl

If you have a vinyl top you may want to check that area out SuperBlue, even without rags on these cars can become rusty around there.

Unfortunately this seems a common rust spot on a lot of cars, vinyl tops & trim mouldings trap dirt & moisture next to metal with little or no paint protection. Rust starts there allowing water to enter the boot (or trunk) & before long you need a new floor in there. Oh well never mind, if it was too easy everybody would be restoring old cars.

Cheers

Vinyl tops.  Rust magnets.  Took the one off mine and it isn't going back.  I did have to replace the panel between the rear window and trunk lid as it was too far gone.

You'll get there.  The journey is its own reward.
