torque converter and 6pk solenoid
« on: August 31, 2002 - 11:50:27 AM »
??? i have a 9" ptc converter and was wondering if this brand is a good brand. it will go on a 727 behind a mildly beefed 440-6. any info?

also what is the purpose of the 6pk solenoid and do you have to have it to opperate a six pack setup. i got in touch with koller dodge and the parts guy said that they do not make this part anylonger and that i would have to find one in a junkyard. if i do need it does anyone have an extra for sale?  thanks mike in tn

thanks for the ad

9" is a pretty high stall speed. PTC makes custom torque convertors.
http://www.protorque.com/protorque_new/index2.htm
Their 9 1/2" is  3200-4800 rpm. Big bucks though!!
PTC-387245   9.5" 727 NON LOCK UP   3200-4800   $745.00
The solenoid is to keep the car from stalling at idle when it comes down on the rpm.

thanks for the reply guys! i went to the website give by sixpackcud and found the #s matched the 9.5" converter putting out at 2800-3500rpm which is perfect for my application. i bought this converter at a swap meet brand new. was told that they didn't know the stall but was supposed to be a good converter. i paid a bill for it and am putting it in front of a stock hd 727 tf for big block and behind a 440-6 with these specs Crane Hydraulic CCH-302-2-NC Cam (232/242(@.050)-112, .504/.528. three bolt,Crane push rods, lifters and springs,906 Heads w/3 angle valve job,Adjustable rocker arms,Double roller timing chain,Mopar mechanical advance, tach drive, electronic distributor, and six pack setup
as far as the solenoid i have been told by several 6pk guys that it isn't really necessary to have one unless you don't tune your car that the motor runs fine w/o it. any who man this is the greatest site on internet for tech stuff!!!!!!!!! i only use chat rooms thru this site. you guys are great and thanks a mill.
::)ps any of you guys have or know anyone who has a steel shaker hood for sale?  heres a starting pic of my beast to be. 70 cuda 440-6 w/ shaker clone  mike in tn

Check out this E-Bay auction for the Steel Shaker hood. I don't know them myself, just found the auction.

Ultimate Rides is in El Paso. I've been in their shop and seen the work they do. It's pricey, but they do it right!

Unless I miss my guess, these guys are doing the same thing that Gene Gregory (other posts) is doing. That is, taking a flat hood and converting it to a SHAKER. Two things in the description give it away. 1. you need to have a core exchange or it will cost you $200.00 more. 2. Bid is for EITHER a 'Cuda or Challenger hood (they ARE different). I would be willing to bet that the reserve is in excess of $2700.00 with all the stuff that comes with it. What do you guys think?  ::) ::)
