I have a 70 Challenger r/t, 383 4 speed, 3.55 axle. I am going to rebuild the 383, simply because I have a lot of 383 stuff I need to use up. Here are the definite items in this engine build; must run on 91 octane; will use 906 heads, Edelbrock Performer intake; TTI headers with2 1/2 " exhaust. Street use only. I absolutely want a combo with good low end torque- no bucking, snorting, bogging when I nail it at low rpms. I would like some recommendations on cam selection/springs/valves and carb combos that you guys know works well at low end. If this engine never sees over 5000 rpm, that's fine.

are you using a performer or performer RPM ?I would use an Engle K56 or the Mopar 528 solid

Performer rpm. I would like to stay with a hydraulic cam. I have heard because of the short stroke of the 383 one must be careful in cam selection, to avoid valves kissing the pistons- or make sure pistons are fly-cut. Does that ring true?

actually as long athe pistons are flycut with valve reliefs .600 lift will clear
