shipping from U.S to Alberta
« on: December 14, 2005 - 11:45:55 AM »
For those of us lucky enuff to live in Alberta, I found a place on the boarder that can help ease the cost of duty. The plce is called Classic Iron and mustang, Her name is Debbie, 403-642-2267 and she lives on the sweet grass boarder and will pick up from the ups store on the U.S side and deliver what you want...engines to what ever for a resonable cost.   Keep in mind I havent tried her yet, but I am going to.

Hey thats always great to know, keep me posted how you make out with this. I'm looking into a 73 'cuda in North Dakota that should be ready in January sometime. Will she help me out bringing a car across the border?

I always ship to the UPS Chain Solutions warehouse in sweetgrass and then drive down and pick it up(1 hr south for me) saves a bundle on duty and the extra shipping that UPS likes to charge once it gets in Canada.

Thanks Kelly.  I wish I had known about this 3 months ago as I have spent a small fortune in shipping lately.  I still saved lot of $$$ as the local vendors still think the Cdn dollar is at $0.65.  One YO dealer used a 2.2 multiplier from US to Cdn!

Did he do this to cover shipping and duties?

Yeah but I imported the stuff myself for a fraction of the price, duties, brokerage and shipping all in.  He also gets a discount off of the YO prices.

I know our Dealership is a dealer for YO and get a whopping 13% discount. pretty hard to make money selling their stuff.

Yeah 13% isn't much but margins shouldn't be too high as no inventory costs exist as it is all special order.  YO makes very little if any of the parts.  Some places like RPM in Saskatoon source directly from the manufacturers and offer ok deals with no brokerage or duty to worry about.

I know when I order myself I can ship it to Sweetgrass and bring it accross for much less than buying from RPM. Only thing I don't factor in is 3hrs of my time from home and back again.
