VIN tag missing!
« on: October 24, 2005 - 05:41:01 PM »
I am trying to find out if I can get a VIN tag remade for my 70 R/T?  I have a clear title, fender tag, broadcast sheet, and the correct numbers on the cowl.   Can anyone help me out with this?  Thanks.

I believe your local DMV would be able to tell you better. The rules seem to be different for each state. In any case, that is the most difficult to reproduce. I'm not saying it can't be done, but documentation is a must.

NO, it is a federal offense to make a new vin tag that look original.  You have to go through your DMV and have them give you a new vin tag that is nowhere near origina, but atleast it is legal.  They make new fender tags, door tags and such, but it is highly illegal to make new vin tags for dash boards.  If you are found with a non-original vin tag on the dash and or a repro, that is a federal offense and involves jail time.  I know this cause a friend of mine had problems with this when replacing a broken dash and trying to swap vins to the new dash.

http://www.datatags.com/ Try this company....alot of steps to go thru, but it could work out if all is up front and for real. As for the legalities, check with your local DMV or State Police to verify that what you are doing is legal or not! Jail time aint cool for a restoration!

Anything I've seen around here (Wi.) is assigned by the state and is placed on the B pillar. But every state has there own gig I'm sure.
