roof trim
« on: November 30, 2005 - 03:55:09 PM »
I was wondering what is the best way to shine or polish the trim that goes around the windshield, rear window, and roof rails.  It is all kind of dull but isnt dented.  Is suppose to shine like the trim in the grill.  I have a 73 barracuda.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Matt.  I have found that there were two materials used for our trim pieces.  Most of the trim is stainless steel while some of it is anodized aluminum.  The stainless peices are the ones around your windows and doors.  We spent many hours buffing ours out with stainless buffing compound and our buffer...but it needs to be a good buffer otherwise you'll just slow the motor down and it won't do anything.  Also, be very careful around the bends of the trim.  Those buffers like to grab hold of it and in a nano-second, you have trashed trim...don't ask me how I know!  :eek7:

Mother's makes a paste in a little red and white can that is good for any kind of metal. I haven't tried it with a buffer, only by hand, but I like it.

I use #000 steel wool, by hand. I also use Mother's polish, but the steel wool does most of the work.
