How Much Do 2004 Dodge Rams Go For?
« on: December 07, 2005 - 07:31:25 PM »

I am seriously considering buying one from the States.  :grinyes:

I am wanting a HEMI/Magnum engine, Auto/Bench must be Black but would consider White.
2004 or 2003 and absolutely has to be a single cab with short deck.

If I find one, it will cost me $20,000 NZD to convert it to RHD which is law for vehicles 20 years or newer than time of import.
So my cut off date is 1985. So if you consider that plus $5,000 NZD shipping it will cost me another $25,000 on top of the vehicle cost.

So a $10,000 USD Dodge Ram would end up costing me $40,000 NZD shipped and converted which is $15,000 - $20,000 cheaper than buying one in New Zealand that someone else brought into the country. Save big dollars if I do the hard yards.

I am wanting one because they are big, bad and Dodge!! A Cuda would be nice but after contemplating the Challenger will keep me busy enough and I want something a little more reliable. Also, a Black Dodge Ram will look sweet next to the White Challenger.

Also, how many people can fit along the front seat of a Dodge Ram? I'm guessing 4?

Thanks for any help.
Cheers,
NZ440R/T

(Ps: I love the one below, it's for sale in New Zealand. It's a 2004 Dodge Ram HEMI at $59,000 converted to RHD.)

Hey NZ...that's my truck without a backseat!  I absolutely love it!  I suppose the the cost will depend on many factors, like mileage, 4WD/2WD, leather interior/standard interior, etc.  I guess the average prices will be somewhere between $15-18K.

N/Z - 3 people will fit across the front seat [3 seatbelts]
That black one is very close to mine - which is an 2003 Hemi Ram 4x4 with the 20" rims, tow package, etc.
only mine is a very dark blue metallic.  5 gears in the automatic tranny works out to about 1700 rpms at 65miles per hour and 3.92 gears - so decent gas milage
My truck has run a best of 15.3 qtr mile, which I think is pretty good for a 5100 lb   4x4.
I can say I have had no issues in nearly 3 years of ownership.  Well built.
PM if you have any specific questions.

Thanks for your replies Laura and 74M.

I am wanting a 4WD as it will be a part time fishing wagon. I just love them, always have, they are just so big and bad and definitely my kind of daily driver/work horse. What kind of MPG are you getting out of your trucks, 5-speed auto!? Thought it was a 4-Speed. Keeps getting better.

Photos are welcome.

Cheers,
Carl

I ususally get 14 - 16 mpg...when we were towing the chally we got 12mpg.  Here's some pics of my truck with the interior so you can see what it looks like.

:clapping: Thanks Rev!! Looks fantastic, is yours a 4x4?
Sometimes they have the floor shift and others have a switch on the dash somewhere so spotting a 4x4 isn't as easy as it once was....

That's not too bad for fuel so my single cab should get an extra maybe 1-1.5/2mpg for the less weight.
Definitely can't beat black!!

Thanks again Laura.

No problem NZ!  No, mine is not 4X4...I really have no need for it.

Hmmmm, I'm thinking I may not need 4x4 either.
The one above is a 2wd and looks like it has plenty of road clearance. Thanks for your input.

This one is very tempting and I think is close to you? Morrow?  :dunno:

Very nice!  That one has the SRT hood...looks very mean when they're driving behind you!! Morrow is about an hour south of me and Landmark Dodge is a very large reputable dealer.  They usually have a show once a year.

Hey, the HEMI is a good engine but, what is purpose? You may be able to get a 4.7L V8 cheaper and you get the manual tranny behind those in the 1/2 tons if you like shifting. Here's a sound clip to hold you over. My truck is just a little 4.7L with an AT3030 Muffler. Everything else is stock as I just swapped the muffler. Even the factory piping is still there.

Thanks Dakota, but I like the HEMI engines, also must ba an Auto as it's a work horse and I've read some bad things about the ram trucks manual trans, besides not a fan of whimpy manuals.  :lol2: Thanks for the link though and info.

The new automatics are good. I got the 5-45 rfe in my truck. Now, some of the older trucks with the 42 and 46 RFE well, let's not go there.

Got about 17 mpg on a trip to California and back.  More like 15 mpg mixed city and highway.

The 2 wheel drives do have a fair amount of clearance. The 4x4 have more. Pay the extra 1-2000 $$ for the 4x4 and you'll never have to wish you had it, if you get stuck or want to go 4 wheeling.

I got the manual transfer case shift when I ordered my truck.. Electronic with a button was a few hundred $ more.  I figured though it just adds layers of complexity, more wiring, solenoids, valves, etc, - whereas with the manual, you just push the lever and feel it go in.  As most 4x4 these days, they are shift-on - the- fly, so you don't have to come to a complete stop to put it in 4x4.
