1/4 mile and 1/8 mile question about my 71 Challenger
« on: December 06, 2005 - 08:34:39 AM »
A little more than a week ago I got my 71 Challenger convertible delivered to my house. I found in the glove box about a dozen drag strip time slips. They all had the same car number, and most of them had a ET in the low 10's. I'm thinking Wow! But there is no way this is from this car, then I saw a mph of 79 and some piss poor 60 foot times of 2.4, 2.6. I'm thinking, this has to be 1/8 mile drags.

I'm more of a road racing guy than a drag racer, but I have to wonder if the time slips are from my car and it runs 10.09 at 79mph in a 1/8th mile, what do you think it can run in a 1/4 mile?

without a roll bar no way a conv can run faster than 13.99  under the rules
probably 15s in the 1/4 , what drivetrain in the car ?

The motor is a built up 340, and a 3.55 gear. I have know idea what cam is in the car what heads is has. The cam is very loppy, and threw the headers and Flow masters sounds really strong. I have a 02 Z06 Corvette that has heads, cam, headers, x pipe, exhaust, computer reprograming turning out over 500hp, and runs 11.50's on street tires. My Challenger makes my Vette sound tame when you start it.
The guy I bought the car from said he bought the car with all the engine work already done, and could not give much detail on what was done. All I know is the first time I stomped on it, I went :eek2:

No 13.99 and rollbar is an NHRA rule.  If the local dragstrip is NHRA sanctioned they have to follow the rule - namely, put in a rollbar.
