I noticed the part in this thread about using a torch to heat out the joints. No issue there, but I wanted to add a caution.  I once dropped a bead of weld on a torsion bar and didn't notice it.  Months later, on the first cold morning, that car turned out of the driveway and the torsion bar snapped in two, dropping the car on the tire.  Glad I was not up to speed yet.  On inspection, the bar showed the stresses of the metal within the split, with stress lines in the metal coming away from the very tiny weld spatter.  Great invention the torsion bar, used in a very high-tension mode as its normal state of use.
