Detour around KC?
« on: December 09, 2005 - 07:18:49 PM »
We are leaving tomorrow for Arizona!!! This is our first trip down with a loaded trailer.  I have decided to go south to Oklahoma City, and then west to Tucson, to avoid any adverse weather. If anyone knows a good alternate route around Kansas City, please help!!! Traffic on I35 through the city is pretty heavy, and I would like to avoid it if I could. My wife, her brother, and the dog are along for the trip, and pulling a 24ft cargo trailer..... I just don't need the added stress!!!

Well it's ok if your not driving around 4:00pm and 6:00pm other wise I drive 70mph on I35 every day.

435 goes around the city you might try that.  :burnout:

Mostly always good, as long as you go on the Kansas side, not the Mo side. It will put you back on the I35 by my house. After that smooth sailing to OKC.

I might be too late on this post, but I'll put it up anyway.

If you are traveling west on I-40 then south on I-25 out of Albuquerque then don't go all the way into Las Cruces NM to catch I-10 west. Get of at the Hatch exit (I believe it's #42) and take hiway 26 to Deming to catch I-10. It's a good 2 lane hiway and will knock off about 50 miles.
