    Hello,

    I have a chance to pick up a cheap 70 auto console from a cuda. My car is a 73 4 speed car. I dont care about the correctness now due to the low price.

    I am just wondering if the 70 console will fit in the 73? I am assuming it will.

    The only question is the auto vs manual top. Will I just need to get a 4 speed top panel for the thing?

    Yes, you definitely need a different top for it. Unfortunately, they aren't cheap, as they are rarer. I believe some other modification would have to be done to the base too, but that's workable. 70 consoles are pricey, in case you didn't know it. That's the only year E-Bodies had a slot for seat belts instead of an ashtray in the back of it. It sounds like you are getting a great deal here.  :thumbsup:

    Its a good deal if $25 and a case of beer is a good deal  :grinyes:

    I beleive I ran across a place onp ebay that makes reproduction tops. We'll see.

    Yeah, they are now FINALLY repopping the console tops. Good luck with it, and GREAT deal. If that console is in any kind of shape, you are stealing it.  :wow:

    worst case scenario, trade for a 73 console, I'm sure someone has one laying around somewhere as a lot of parts are accumulated at shows because the part is avaialable and someday might be used.  I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to have a console, but don't and I like it just fine.

     Yes, as far as I know, the automatic plastic piece can be modified to fit a 4-speed. Do you know better? Obviously the top plates are much different.

    The top plastic has to conform to the plate, so it is that much different in shape and size.

    you also need to cut the bottom of the console tp clear the shifter boot .. you are stealing it   :thumbsup:
